Biography


Born in 1978 in Trieste, a member of the Slovene ethnic minority living in Italy. In 1998 began his studies of film and TV direction at the Ljubljana Academy (AGRFT ) and took his degree in 2004. Worked as assistant director on several full-length feature films, including Danis Tanovic's "No Man's Land" (2nd AD),  "Ljubljana, the Beloved" by Matjaž Klopcic and  "Installation of Love" by Maja Weiss (both 1st AD).

His diploma work, short film Izlet (The Excursion), won several international awards (Montpellier, Bologna, Wiesbaden). His professional debute film  Rezina življenja (A Slice of Life) won the prize for the best Slovenian short film at the festival of Slovenian film 2006.

His short film Vsakdan ni vsak dan (Every Day Is Not The Same) was selected for the Quinzaine des Realizateurs in Cannes and screened on more than 30 international film festivals.

Martin was selected for the 18th session of the Cinefondation Residence.
